On November 6th, the 16th Belt and Road Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum was successfully held in Shanghai as a concurrent event of the 6th China International Import Expo. The forum was hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation and co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation, the Development Research Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum. Good morning! As China’s economy continues to flourish, Chinese consumers increasingly prioritize and seek high-quality, healthy food. This trend presents heightened expectations for our food industry. Charoen Pokphand Group, engaged in the agri-food business, has always prioritized food safety and is committed to its enhancement.
Here’s how Charoen Pokphand Group ensures food safety:
First, we ensure food safety through a complete industry chain, from farm to table.
1. We strictly manage the food safety at the farming source. For poultry, pigs, and egg-laying hens, we implement a ‘five-unified’ management approach: uniform seedlings, feed, veterinary drugs and vaccines, farming techniques, and processing. Using healthy seedlings bred and immunized by Charoen Pokphand, feeding them with safe feed produced by us, and using safe veterinary drugs and vaccines sourced through stringent evaluation, our professional veterinarians and technical personnel manage on-site farming. We enforce a food safety record management system for farms, conducting monthly food safety inspections to ensure the safety of Charoen Pokphand chicken, pork, and eggs during the breeding process.
2. We exert strict control over food safety during the production process. Charoen Pokphand Group has invested significantly in advanced food factories with highly automated and intelligent production lines, minimizing environmental and human contamination of food. We implement ISO9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO22000 Food Safety Management Systems, and HACCP Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Management Systems, ensuring the safety of our food production process.
3. We conduct rigorous food safety testing. Charoen Pokphand Group has established a food testing center equipped with advanced facilities and a professional team. We test for indicators required by national food safety standards and regularly send our products to qualified authoritative institutions for external testing, ensuring food safety through internal and external checks.
Second, Charoen Pokphand Group manages food safety through an information system.
1. We have adopted a food safety information system to manage food safety operations. This system links recorded farms with the financial procurement system, preventing chickens, pigs, and eggs from non-recorded farms from being purchased and entering our food factories, replacing manual interception with an automated system.
2. We collaborate with Baidu Technology Company to develop and introduce a food safety sampling and public opinion monitoring system, allowing real-time monitoring of market sampling and social opinions related to Charoen Pokphand food, enhancing our management of emergent food safety situations.
3. Using IoT technology in food transportation, we have established a warehousing and transportation IoT traceability system (TMS Management System). Vehicles are equipped with mobile IoT devices, providing real-time information on location and transport temperature and humidity, with immediate alerts for any temperature control anomalies, ensuring food safety during transportation.
Food safety is the lifeblood of a food company and reflects its responsibility and commitment. The theme of the forum is, ‘Deepening the Belt and Road Cooperation in Agriculture and Food: Jointly Creating a Better Life for Humanity.’ Leaders from the State Administration for Market Regulation, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Health Commission, General Administration of Customs, as well as leaders from Shanghai, Henan, Hainan, and other provincial governments, representatives of provincial market supervision departments, representatives of relevant United Nations organizations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and embassies of South Africa, the Netherlands, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, Tanzania, Senegal, among others, along with over 400 delegates from domestic and international enterprises, participated in the forum. Guests collectively deliberated on agricultural cooperation and food industry development, contributing insights and strategies for the high-quality development of agriculture and food industries in the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting the role of the forum as a platform for policy interpretation.
2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum. Over the past decade, the forum has been successfully held for 15 sessions within the framework of the National Food Safety Publicity Week and the China International Import Expo. The forum has solidly promoted high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road, extensively conducted exchanges and cooperation in the agricultural and food industries, played a significant role in the development and safety of agricultural food industries in the countries along the route, and facilitated smooth international trade among the Belt and Road countries.
