Speech by H.E. Mahbub Uz Zaman at the 13 th Belt and Road Eco-Agriculture and Fo

Co-hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation of P.R.China, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Silk-road Planning and Research Center, and the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the Belt and Road Eco-agriculture and Food Safety Forum was successfully held on November 6, 2020 at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center.
H.E. Mahbub Uz Zaman,Ambassador of Bangladesh to China attended the Forum and delivered a speech.



On may in 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the Belt and Road Forum for international cooperation. In his speech he proposed some principles:
(1) China to work with countries participating in the BRI to enhance cooperation in Innovation
(2) China to establish the Belt and Road cooperation Mechanism
(3) China to scale up financial support cooperation for BRI
(4) China to provide assistance to developing countries and international organizations participating in the BRI
Five major areas of cooperation are
1.Policy communication
2.Road connectivity
3.Unimpeded trade
4.Money circulation
5.Cultural understanding
 
Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of HPM Sheikh Hasina has achieved remarkable reduction in poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition. This reduction were made possible by sharp increases in real wages of agricultural labours. The growth in demand for labour for the textile industry remmitence better access to improve sanitation, facilities, improvement to female literacy and better access to assets on the part of women. 

The government embarked on the perspective plan covering the period 2010 to 2021 achieving food security and pursuing environmental friendly development. The Ministry of food has prepared the national food policy which strives for adequate and stable supply of safe and nutritious food with intervention in technology, generation, use and management of water resources supply and sustainable use of agricultural inputs, crop diversification and market infrastructural development.

The high population density and certain specific biophysical vulnerabilities makes Bangladesh extremely vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters. In addition to affecting lives and livelihoods directly it puts us on some strains, there are limits to…

We have to also address food safety quality and standards of food chains at risks due to poor handling practices, hygienic shortcomings and adulteration. We need technical expertise from China, they can also help build capacity on testing and monitoring and enhance the regulatory framework managed by the concerned Ministry

We already have an MOU between Bangladesh government and Chinese government for increasing agricultural cooperation that was signed in 7th April 2005 and is renewable after 5 years
We also have MOU between the government of Yunnan province of China and BARC for increasing agricultural cooperation that was signed in August 2010. 

A six members of delegation from BARC, BARI, BRRI, BSRI attended the 2rn workshop on the exchange and cooperation convention for agricultural Sciences and Technology in China and South Asian(ECCAST-CSA) organized by Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in July 2018. We also attended a symposium organized by Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2017 where parallel sessions in Enhancing cooperation for exchanging information for agriculture sciences in the special fields of Wheat Soybeans and sugarcane.
